Many countries classify other countries that they consider rabies-free / rabies controlled and adjust their pet import requirements for those countries. Information is generally based on current standings with the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE).

Rabies-Free Countries as classified by the European Union: The European Union no longer classifies any country as rabies-free. Rabies vaccinations are required for cats, dogs and ferrets entering the European Union from any country. They do classify countries as rabies-controlled (listed Third) countries.

 

a) Countries and Territories recognized as being rabies free by the Cayman Islands Government:

Antigua, Australia, Barbados, Bermuda, Great Britain, Hawaii, Ireland (Rep), Jamaica, New Zealand, Northern Ireland, St Vincent.

 b) Countries and Territories recognized where rabies is well controlled:

Rabies-free countries as classified by Hong Kong: (6 month residency requirement): United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Hawaii and Japan.

Rabies-free countries as classified by Australia: (6 month residency requirement): New Zealand, Norfolk Island and Cocos Island.

Rabies-Free Countries as classified by New Zealand: (6 month residency requirement)

Australia, Bahrain, Barbados, Falkland Islands, Fiji, French Polynesia, Guam, Hawaii, Iceland, Japan, Mauritius, New Caledonia, Singapore and Vanautu.
